Gulfstream G280 vs Bombardier Challenger 350 – Which Aircraft Should I Use?

Launched less than ten years ago, the Gulfstream G280 has quickly cemented itself as a popular aircraft among executives. Not to be outdone, Bombardier released its updated Challenger 350 aircraft two years later, and has since gained significant market share in the super mid-size segment.

Guides For Private Jet Owners

Given that both aircraft are able to accommodate roughly 8 – 10 business passengers, it’s no wonder the two are often compared. In order to determine which aircraft is best for your corporate travel program, it’s important to consider each aircraft’s current availability, estimated range and optional interior features.

Market Dependent Availability

While both aircraft have had successful launches, one has quickly proven to be the more popular option to date.

With Gulfstream being based in the United States, their aircraft are much more likely to be available across the pond. Since production first began in 2009, over 200 aircraft have been produced, creating ample supply on the used aircraft market. General Dynamics, which is Gulfstream’s parent company, does not provide aircraft-specific backlogs. However, it has indicated in its latest earnings report that demand has picked up following the first half of 2020.

Meanwhile, the Bombardier Challenger 350 was the most delivered aircraft in its category for the seventh year in a row, with over 350 aircraft delivered to date. While the majority of its aircraft are also based in the United States, it is estimated that roughly 19% of all Challenger 350s are based in Europe. Similar to the Gulfstream G280, Challenger 350 aircraft are currently available on the pre-owned marketplace.

Increased Range, Fewer Stops

With an estimate range of 3,600 nautical miles, The Gulfstream G280 can fly approximately 12% further than the Bombardier Challenger 350. This means that while the Challenger 350 can just barely reach the east coast of the United States from London Biggin Hill Airport, The G280 can get much closer to Midwest cities such as Chicago. And with a slightly lower fuel burn, this means direct operating costs can be lower with the G280.

With that being said, both aircraft can adequately service the vast majority of European destinations from the UK. For worry-free business travel across Europe or abroad, a flight support partner can help develop flight plans and ensure your team receives the VIP treatment wherever it travels to.

Interior Features for Business

Thankfully, when it comes to interior features of business aircraft, many aspects can be customized to fit your needs. Off the production line, however, the G280 has seats that are 1” wider. When it comes to Wi-Fi, both aircraft are certified to carry Ka-band connectivity, meaning productivity doesn’t have to stop once onboard.

Other features that can be altered on both aircraft include seating configurations, premium galleys and more.

Bottom Line

Both the Gulfstream G280 and Bombardier Challenger 350 are excellent aircraft in their own regard. Each has the ability to transport you and your team throughout most of Europe, while gaining added luxuries not available with commercial aircraft. While the G280 has a slightly lower operating cost and greater range, either aircraft is likely to meet your business travel needs for the years to come.
